October 22, 2016
8:00am to 12:00pm

All Marietta College students, staff, and faculty (and families) are invited to come volunteer and be part of Make a Difference Day — a nationwide event — starting at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, October 22nd.

This is a wonderful day of building connections across campus and across the community. You can participate as an individual, or as a team, an organization, a hall, or a class.

On October 22nd, volunteers from across the country will unite for Make A Difference Day, one of the largest annual single-days of service nationwide. Since 1992, volunteers and communities have come together on Make A Difference Day with a single purpose: to improve the lives of others. (www.makeadifferenceday.com).

This day of service at Marietta College is organized by students in the McDonough Leadership Program's LEAD 101 classes, with support from the Office of Civic Engagement.

Registration for all volunteers will take place from 8:00 until 8:45 a.m., Saturday, October 22nd at the Great Room of Andrews Hall
Coffee and donuts are available from 8:00-8:45 a.m. at the Great Room of Andrews Hall
Service at sites will run approximately 9:00 a.m.-Noon

Service Sites include: Marietta in Bloom (gardening), Ely Chapman Book Drive (organizing books), Oak Grove Cemetery (working on restoration of the historic chapel), The Castle (landscaping and maintenance), Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg (constructing carts for their new maker-space for youth), Harvest of Hope Community Garden (garden improvement and maintenance).

All volunteers should wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty and closed toed shoes. We recommend long pants, dressing in layers, and bringing a full water bottle. Most projects will have snacks on site.

Can't make it Saturday morning? No problem! We are also serving a community meal at the Daily Bread Kitchen from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19th, and helping organize a Poverty Simulation exercise with the Circles Campaign of the Mid-Ohio Valley at The Gathering Place from Noon-3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22nd. To sign up to participate in one of these alternate Make a Difference Day projects, emailms010@marietta.edu and we will connect you with the student project leaders.

Questions, contact Director of Civic Engagement Maribeth Saleem-Tanner at ms010@marietta.edu, or x4561.

Looking forward to seeing you at Marietta College's largest annual day of service!
