Marietta College's Office of Diversity and Inclusion is hosting a Salsa Dancing event at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22nd in The Gathering Place. This event is being held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, and the College is excited to have Luis Giudice as a performer and instructor. Luis has lived in Marietta for three years and started dancing at the age of 18 in Brazil. He is trained in classical ballet, jazz, tap, and ballroom dancing.
Salsa dancing originated in the 1900s in Eastern Cuba. Salsa dancing also has African and Caribbean roots. Salsa dancing is a mixture of several Latin dances, such as the tango and mambo. The dance was named after the style of music but no one quite knows why it was named "salsa."
