The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is presenting its inaugural session in support of our educational program, Ambassadors for Inclusive Excellence at 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, September 19th, Legacy 219. The program is titled, "Understanding LGBTQ+ Student Experiences, Success, and Retention," and it will be facilitated by Doug Evans, Associate Director Of Major Gifts, Marietta College. All members of the campus community are welcome to participate in this session. Lunch will be served starting at 11:45.
This workshop and discussion will provide participants with an understanding of the experiences LGBTQ+ students may face before, during, and after Matriculation and how these experiences may affect their success and retention. After participating in a simulated Coming Out experience, we will be examining the latest findings from UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute’s Cooperative Institutional Research Program’s studies on Freshman, Campus climate, and Diversity as well as the findings of the American College Health Association. The workshop will conclude with a discussion and exploration of what programs, initiatives, and efforts other institutions are and have undertaken to address the needs of LGBTQ+ Students while providing and encouraging a diverse, welcoming, and safe learning environment for their students.
