Marietta College may be unable to host an on-campus Multicultural Fest this year, but the Office of Diversity and Inclusion are planning to celebrate Juneteenth 2020 virtually. Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America.
The following online sites will showcase art, history, education and music:
- The African American Museum of Iowa is hosting a Juneteenth 2020 Celebration June 15th through June 20th
- Juneteenth Community Day Celebration by The Amistad Center for Arts and Culture in Connecticut
- Juneteenth 2020: Stay Black and Live by Carver Museum and Cultural Center in Texas (free but must register via Eventbrite)
