Since 1987, when the first group of McDonough Scholars (Cohort 1) participated in this annual orientation event, the Center has offered the new leadership students an opportunity to interact with upper-class students, faculty and staff in preparation for the beginning of the new academic year.
The new McDonough Scholars (Cohort 30) will participate in the 2016 EXCEL (Experience Civic Engagement and Leadership) Workshop on August 19-24 -- a five-day event designed to introduce the new leadership students to the McDonough Leadership Program. Upper-class students organize and run the workshop.
Meet the 2016 EXCEL Workshop Coordinator:
Riley Osborn is a senior, pursing a major in International Leadership Studies and a double minor in Political Science and Philosophy. She is from Olympia, WA, and a proud Pioneer at Marietta College. Osborn is involved in various projects and organizations on campus such as Scholars Community, Student Government Association, and the "Next Generation: Nonprofit Leadership and Board Governance" Project. She enjoys getting mochas at Stoked Coffee, compulsively obsessing over Beyoncé, and being a treasure trove of pop culture. Osborn hopes that Cohort 30 will have fun, make friends, defy self-imposed limitations and have no regrets!
“The EXCEL Workshop is a journey of overcoming obstacles and it will provide you with the resources and skills necessary to begin your studies in leadership, as well as a solid foundation for your undergraduate education," says Osborn. "It is my hope that each of you will have a life changing experience in your next four years, starting with EXCEL. Welcome to the McDonough family, Cohort 30!”
Forms to Bring for the Workshop:
The following form(s) must be printed, completed, and brought with you to the EXCEL registration table on Friday, August 19th, when you check-in for the Workshop.
