5:00 p.m., Monday, August 10th
The annual Matriculation ceremony marks a student's formal enrollment in the College. Because of COVID-19, the College will be conducting a virtual ceremony in 2020. Parents and family members are encouraged to watch on the College's YouTube channel. Typically, the August event begins with the traditional procession of the faculty, in full academic robe. All new students are expected to go through the matriculation process, and families are encouraged to attend the 60- to 90-minute proceeding.
The ceremony includes the Charge to New Students from the Provost, as well as official greetings from the President, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students, and the Student Body President. The ceremony concludes with each student adding his or her name to the Marietta College Matriculation Book — where they will receive a poster that commemorates the day. In typical years, immediately following Matriculation, a celebratory dinner is hosted in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center, and all Matriculation guests are invited to attend. In 2020, students will receive a boxed dinner following the ceremony.
