Active in multiple professional entertainment industries, David Makuch’s experience includes designing lighting for theatre productions, corporate events, and music concerts as far east as Cape Cod and as far west as St. Louis. He also works locally at Peoples Bank Theatre, filling various technical positions as needed. An active member of United States Institute for Theatre Technology, David has led or participated in panels on educational theatre topics including season crafting, safety training, stage management, post-graduation planning, and textbook selection.

David brings his extensive knowledge and love of technical theatre to Marietta College. In addition to being chair of the department, building sets, hanging lights, and teaching classes, David designs scenery and lighting for the department production season. His research interests include new theatre technologies (especially environmentally-friendly equipment and practices), projection design techniques, and theatre safety practices. The ability to paint with light is his passion, and he thoroughly enjoys learning and teaching the many tools artists now have at their disposal.
