Lucas Poggiali joined the Marietta College football coach staff in 2017. He works mainly with the Pioneer quarterbacks. Under Poggiali's guidance, quarterback Darrien Fields, a first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection in 2017 and a second team All-OAC selection in 2016, set the Marietta College single-season record for touchdown passes with 21 in 2017. Fields broke his own mark in 2018 with 22 TD passes.
Poggiali came to Marietta after serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Oberlin College, an NCAA Division III member of the North Coast Athletic Conference, in 2016. In addition to coaching the Yeomen running backs, Poggiali was responsible for recruiting Columbus and Toledo in Ohio, as well as Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Colorado. A four-year varsity letter winner at Oberlin, Poggiali started three games at quarterback as a freshman and was the Yeomen’s top signal-caller for the duration of his career. He set the school record for passing yards in a game with 506 in a 48-9 win over Allegheny in 2015. Poggiali finished his career as Oberlin’s second all-time leader in career passing yards with 5,508 and passing attempts with 945. He ranks third all-time in completions with 478. Poggiali served as a team captain in his junior and senior seasons and was Oberlin’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2015.
