Susan Cook Hayes
Susan Hayes, a West Virginia native, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Leadership Studies from Marietta College in 1998. She went on to attain a Master of Arts in Publication Design from the University of Baltimore in 2004.
Upon graduation from Marietta, Susan began her professional career in Atlanta, Georgia, working for Phoenix Communications, a higher education marketing agency. She then went on to work at Magna Publications in Madison, Wisconsin, and Robert Rytter & Associates in Butler, Maryland. After completion of her master’s degree, Susan ventured out onto her own as an independent marketing and graphic design consultant where she has developed long-term relationships with clients both large and small, government agencies and non-profits. Susan’s recent focus has been in branding, logo development, graphic design and social media strategy for startups and small businesses in Atlanta.
Susan advocates for children as a volunteer for Forsyth County CASA. Serving for the last three years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate has brought new insight into what child advocacy can and should look like and has impacted her view of Juvenile Justice and the poverty epidemic in Georgia.
Her commitment to advocacy and education led her to serve Georgia PTA at the state level for six years. Susan served as the 13th District Director (for three years), Leadership Development Chair, Communications Specialist and as a member of the Georgia PTA Board of Trustees. While serving Georgia PTA, she edited the publication The Voice, which garnered national attention among PTA leaders. Currently, her service to PTA is at the National PTA level where she is in her second term on the National PTA Elections Committee.
Susan, Jason ’97 and their teenage son J.J. live in Cumming, Georgia, where they run the Triple Double Youth Basketball Organization with which Susan works to perfect her sports photography skills.
