Dear Marietta College family,

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic and deadly shootings that continue to occur across the U.S. Last night, it was at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, that is frequented by college students. Two weeks ago, it was at a synagogue in Pittsburgh. Each time, dozens of innocent lives were lost because of a senseless act of violence.

It is at times like this that I think it is important to remind ourselves of the importance of working together to ensure the safety of our campus and support those who need it

If you ever have a possible safety concern to report, please do so immediately to the Marietta College Police Department at 740.376.3333.

If you or someone you know is in need of counseling support, please call the Center for Health and Wellness at 740.376.4477 or go there in person for an appointment (Seventh Street side of Harrison Hall).

By working together and taking appropriate action, we can make sure anyone who needs support receives it, and any safety concerns that arise can be addressed quickly and effectively.

Thank you for doing your part to make Marietta College a great place to be a student, faculty or staff member and please join me in praying for the families of those who lost their lives or were injured in these recent attacks.

Sincerely,

Bill Ruud
President and Professor of Management
