Dear Marietta College Family,

On Thursday, February 11th — a few days early — we will recognize an important tradition at Marietta, as the College recognizes being officially chartered by the state of Ohio on February 14, 1835.

Say it with me — Happy 186th Birthday, Marietta College!

We are also part of the long and rich history that defines Marietta College, and the generations that follow will be equally as proud of what we are accomplishing. We will also be remembered for our commitment to tradition — maintaining the liberal arts as a hallmark of a Marietta College education, which is something that continues to serve our graduates well. The College has been celebrating Founders Day on a consistent basis since 1921 — that’s 100 years, and I hope you will join us for a virtual celebration at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 11th.

Our Founders Day Committee has been meeting since last fall to plan both the virtual event and some special displays that you can stop by and see in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center that showcase this year’s award winners. There will also be prize giveaways from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., so I encourage you to go to the College’s Facebook page where the winners will be announced. You can also follow along on Twitter and check your email to see if you have won a prize. Our employees and students have been added to the drawing.

Thank you to all of you who make Marietta College your home, a great place to live and learn, and for sharing your love and passion every day.

Bring Forth a Pioneer,

Bill Ruud
President and Professor of Management
