Dear Marietta College Community:
“It isn’t a political issue; it’s a medical issue.”
I borrowed this line from a joint letter signed by nine southeast Ohio hospitals and health systems that was released on Monday, September 13th. Memorial Health System President and CEO Scott Cantley signed the letter and yesterday I asked him if I could share the letter with our campus (see below).
He enthusiastically said to share it and asked that I encourage everyone who has not yet done so, to get vaccinated and to continue wearing a mask to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. The latest surge of COVID-19 cases is stretching all the regional hospitals’ resources to the brink and they need our help. These heroes have been on the front lines of this battle for too long. It is time for all of us to do our part.
You have heard me encourage everyone to Bring Forth a Pioneer and to Blaze a New Trail. There is no better time for everyone at Marietta College to live up to these expectations than now. I am pleading with everyone who can be vaccinated to do so immediately. The science is in and the vaccines work.
This is a medical issue … not a political issue.
Sincerely,
Bill Ruud
President and Professor of Management
