Dear Marietta College Community:

I am again honored to join the entire Marietta College community in recognizing Veterans Day 2020. We are indebted to the many veterans among our students, staff, faculty, alumni, and in our community for their service to our country, and we are proud to call them members of the MC family.

Marietta has always welcomed soldiers, sailors, marines, aviators, and coast guard men and women with open arms and never more so than in the immediate aftermath of World War II. In fact, the College was just barely able to accommodate them all. Veterans flocked to campus where they experienced a very special combination of hospitality, accommodation, academic challenge and opportunity lasting a lifetime.

Today, we are most proud to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program. Through this program, we are able to enroll veterans or family members of veterans and their tuition and fees are covered under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. We currently have six fantastic students utilizing this program and would always welcome more.

Veterans Day is an important reminder of the service and sacrifice of so many members of the Marietta College community. We are proud to stand alongside our veterans and look forward to engaging with them throughout their time on our campus.

It would also be my honor to have all of you join Student Body President Katie Kitchen and me at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, November 11th, for a wreath-laying ceremony outside of the Gilman Student Center as we honor our veterans.

Sincerely,

Bill Ruud
President and Professor of Management
