Dear Marietta College family,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Scot Schaeffer as Marietta College’s Vice President for Enrollment Management. He will join Marietta College on March 5th.  He was selected after a national search that included a highly respectable applicant pool. Scot has 35 years of experience in higher education, and most recently spent the past 11 years at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, as VP for Enrollment Management.

As the VP for Enrollment Management, Scot will work to develop and lead an aggressive and forward-thinking enrollment team. His track record at Luther is impressive and includes a strong increase in applications and diversity enrollment. At Luther, Scot implemented numerous successful initiatives, including a student fly-in program, counselor fly-in program, alumni recruitment and scholarship program and a redesigned visit program that increased visits.

I know everyone will help support his efforts as we continue to improve our overall enrollment picture. Scot will be responsible for identifying, attracting, yielding and ensuring the success of Marietta  College’s undergraduate students. He will have direct oversight of the offices of Admission and Student Financial Services.

Prior to Luther, Scot was the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the University of North Carolina-Asheville from June 2002  to June 2007. He helped increase freshman enrollment 63 percent over a two-year period and coordinated the creation of a new series of recruitment publications.

Other positions he has held include Dean of Admission at the University of Evansville (Indiana) from 1999-2001, Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Kentucky Wesleyan College from 1998-99 and Director of Admission at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin, from 1992-97. He was also the Acting Dean of Admissions/Director of Admissions from 1991-92 and Associate Director of Admissions from 1990-91 at St. Norbert.

I’d also like to thank Kelli Barnette, who has served as the Interim VP for Enrollment Management for the past 11 months. When she took over in March 2017, Kelli played a critical role in leading the staff and bringing in 397 new students in the fall. This year, the numbers look even better as we move into a key time in the enrollment cycle. In recognition of her efforts, I’m pleased to announce that Kelli has been promoted to Assistant Vice President of Enrollment  Management.

Please join me in welcoming Scot, and his family to the Marietta community.

Sincerely,

Bill Ruud
President and Professor of Management
