Dear Marietta College community,

I am excited to announce that Marietta College will be installing new FieldTurf surfaces — a synthetic field — at Don Drumm Stadium and Marietta Field (soccer). This project was unanimously approved during the Executive Committee meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

In the Marietta College spirit of blazing a new trail, we have decided not to go with the traditional green field. Instead, the football field will be a gray field with contrasting shades every five yards and the Marietta College Pioneer logo at midfield. The end zones will be navy blue with Marietta spelled out in white. Don Drumm will be marked for football and men’s lacrosse, and include temporary marks for women’s lacrosse and soccer. I have attached images so you can see renderings of our plans.

The $1.2 million project will begin immediately with all of the permitting requirements, plans and completion dates. We have an aggressive timeline and we are optimistic that work will be completed at Don Drumm by August 1st and the work at Marietta Field will be completed by August 15th.

The current fields have served our student-athletes well over the past 14 years — well beyond the typical lifespan. As the demands on these fields have increased through intramurals, recreation, camps and community events, the time is right for these facilities to be upgraded.

This is exciting news for the College and the Marietta community. Marietta City Schools, which use Don Drumm for football and track and field, is a supportive partner as we move forward.

I will keep you updated throughout the summer as progress is made and I know you’ll join me in the fall when the Pioneers take the field for the first time on these amazing new playing surfaces.

Bring Forth a Pioneer!
