MCAA Vice-Chair Welcomes New Members of The Long Blue Line

While the December graduation celebration varies a great deal from the pomp and circumstance of the May Commencement exercises, one thing is consistent and that is the welcome extended by the Marietta College Alumni Association to its newest members of The Long Blue Line. Sunday's informal ceremony in Fenton Court saw twenty-three proud graduates and their families receive the congratulations of Dr. Jean Scott, Interim Provost Dr. Gama Perruci, and MCAA Board of Directors Vice-Chair Paula Pitasky '96.

Continuing the tradition of the MCAA being among the first to address fellow Pioneers as they make the transition from student to alumni, Paula represented the Association sharing thoughts on opportunities that new graduates have to remain connected to alma mater even as they pursue career options, graduates studies or personal interests.

The MCAA, founded in 1841, pursues a mission of building upon the common bond of enthusiasm, loyalty and service of alumni and friends of Marietta College to establish a community of support for the academic, campus life, fund raising and enrollment efforts of the College.

Both the students and their alumni mentors were introduced as were coordinators of the outreach program; Hilles Hughes, director of the Career Center, and Christy Burke, director of Education Abroad.

The Office of Alumni Relations and MCAA would like to extend most sincere thanks to all those who contributed to a most successful evening and especially to John and Jackie for their warm hospitality!

Pioneers Celebrate All Things Navy Blue and White During Autumn Breeze Homecoming Weekend 2011

Hundreds of Marietta College alumni returned to campus October 14-16 to participate in a full weekend schedule of events during Homecoming 2011. From the Lambda Chi Pig Roast all the way through to Sunday's Farewell Breakfast, classmates, faculty, staff, and students all enjoyed a festive atmosphere providing the perfect backdrop for renewing friendships and connections.

The Alumni Association Board of Directors helped kick-off the celebration with participation in the Second Annual Career Jamboree. Joining with Alumni Award winners and partners from the Career Center and Study Abroad Office, Pioneers visited with students to discuss professional paths and occupational options before reconvening Friday morning for the First Annual Etiquette Breakfast where they shared tips on everything from interviews to social media.

The Alumni Awards Convocation featured an opportunity to honor outstanding graduates and friends for a variety of achievements including induction into the Marietta College Hall of Honor, the highest award offered by the Alumni Association.

A full schedule of reunion receptions reuniting classes from 1966 to 2005 turned campus and downtown Marietta into a lively prelude to the raucous raising of championship banners at Fenton Court revisiting the men's basketball run to the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen last winter during Midnight Madness.

On Saturday, Marietta on the Mall continued the athletic theme with a Sports Festival that not only recognized the accomplishments of the basketball team, but of track and field, women's rowing, and the Division III national baseball championship brought back from Wisconsin by Brian Brewer's 'Etta Express.

A parade and a tailgate later, it was Coach Filkovski's chance to grab the spotlight and he turned loose his football Pioneers for a convincing 31-6 victory over visiting Wilmington.

By the time Pioneers gathered at Gilman to swap addresses and farewells over breakfast, Autumn Breeze was in the books; another outstanding Marietta College Homecoming experience for The Long Blue Line.
