Dr. McDaniel was born and raised in the south and first got interested in history through reading historical novels like Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte. While at Davidson College, she studied abroad at Cambridge University in England.

She has taught at Vanderbilt, Converse College in South Carolina, and Centre College in Kentucky before joining Marietta College in 2001. She does research on English travel and the early British Empire and is also interested in music, piano, and theater.
