SAA Minutes

The SAA Skype's with CEO and Founder of Front Porch Strategies, Matt Parker.

Matt Parker

Matthew D. Parker is the CEO and Founder of Front Porch Strategies, an international voter contact and constituent communications firm based out of Columbus, Ohio. Parker, a 2003 Marietta College graduate, volunteered his time to Skype with the Student Alumni Association (SAA) about his time at Marietta, the opportunities his education has provided and his many successes.

Matt met his wife, Marina Parker, at Marietta during their college career and they are in the process of adopting their first child from Ethiopia. Matt spoke to the students about his passion for his family, faith and politics. He shared his struggle to get where he is now and gave them all reason to believe that they can do what they love if they work hard at it. Matt told the students if there was one bit of advice he could give them, it would be to learn how to communicate. "You have to know how to write…" Matt told the SAA.

The Student Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations would like to thank Matt for taking the time to Skype and to offer great advice. We wish Matt and Marina the best of luck with their baby and congratulate them on becoming first time parents!

If you are interested in participating in a Pioneer Skype with the Student Alumni Association please contact, Sarah Kelly, Assistant Director of Regional Associations and Young Alumni Programs at 740.376.4926 or e-mail,

SAA Student/Faculty Reception

SAA Reception 2012 1

The Student Alumni Association hosted its annual Student/Faculty Reception Thursday night, May 10th at the Galley in downtown Marietta. This reception gave students and faculty one last chance to reminisce over the past four years and talk about the future. Students learned just how much the Marietta College Alumni Association can do for them after graduation and had the chance to soak up any last minute advice before they begin their next adventure.

During the Reception students had the opportunity to sign up for a raffle…To sign up they wrote down their favorite Marietta College Memory, here is what some of them had to say:

Alex Wynn's favorite memory was helping to make community baseball day a success.

Emily Caris and Robin Nelson enjoyed their time working with the Student Alumni Association (SAA)!

Derek Hannen and Will Vance remember hanging up a tire swing in the freshman quad 3 times!!

Miranda Carver's favorite memory was the Late Night Breakfast! She said "It's always great to see faculty and students having a great time!"

Amber Vance enjoyed the McDonough Women in Leadership Conference and passing out candy for trick-or-treaters at Dr. Young's home.

Jackie Bergy's favorite memories was interacting with the Board of Trustees at the Homecoming Brunch. She thought it was great hearing how Marietta College was when they attended and good practice networking.

What is your favorite Marietta College memory? Send us your memory at alumni@marietta.eduand maybe we will feature it on our website or Facebook page!
