Marietta College will celebrate the Grand Opening of The Milone Center for Academic and Career Success on Friday, Sept. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m., officially marking a new chapter in the College’s commitment to advancing academic success, cultivating career readiness and empowering students to thrive beyond the classroom.
Located on the first floor of Legacy Library, The Milone Center serves as a centralized hub for academic and career support, connecting students with a broad range of academic, career and experiential learning resources, including academic success coaching, tutoring, accessibility services, career development, entrepreneurship, global and experiential education, library research support, the Speech Studio and the Writing Studio.
The Grand Opening event, “Unlock The Milone Center,” will allow the campus and broader community to explore the newly renovated space, learn more about its resources and celebrate the vision and generosity that made the project possible. The event will feature remarks from President Kathleen Poorman Dougherty, Dr. Jacqueline Khorassani, executive director of The Milone Center, and members of The Milone Center team.
The $1 million project was made possible through a fully funded gift from Pioneer parents Mike and Julie Milone P’12. The Milones’ gift transformed the library’s first floor into a dynamic, student-centered space designed to foster academic achievement, career development and meaningful opportunities for growth in one accessible location.
“The Milone Center brings to life a shared vision of intentionally connecting opportunities for academic engagement with career success,” said Marietta College President Kathleen Poorman Dougherty. “As we celebrate the grand opening, we honor Mike and Julie Milone's generosity and welcome our students into a beautiful space designed to help them build purposeful futures.”
New features throughout the space include the Information Commons, group study areas and a suite of dedicated interview rooms equipped for both in-person and virtual conversations with employers and graduate schools. The Center also expands students’ access to the library’s research resources, including scholarly articles, databases and books.
By bringing these resources together, The Milone Center creates pathways between the people, programs and services that shape students’ education at Marietta. The Center builds on Marietta College’s longstanding commitment to experiential learning by connecting classroom learning with opportunities to explore, apply knowledge and develop professional and leadership skills.
“The Milone Center reflects our belief that preparing students for what comes next requires us to look at the whole student and to connect academic success, exploration, experience, and career preparation. By bringing these resources into a collaborative network, students can start anywhere and still get connected to the right support,” said Khorassani. “This investment demonstrates Marietta College’s commitment to helping students not only succeed here, but also leave Marietta prepared to build purposeful and successful lives.”
The Grand Opening will celebrate that vision while looking ahead to the students and graduates who will benefit from the Center for years to come. The community is invited to join Marietta College to celebrate this new chapter in student success.
