The Town & Gown Program allows members of the public to sit in on undergraduate courses at Marietta College at a minimal cot..

Program details:

  • Enrollment depends on space availability and instructor approval
  • Participation is limited to classroom attendance
  • No academic credit or transcript is issued
  • No Marietta College ID or network account is provided
  • Access to online materials is at the instructor’s discretion
  • Examinations and assignments may be completed, but graded feedback is not guaranteed

Town & Gown is ideal for individuals who want to explore college‑level coursework without formal enrollment.

Town & Gown Cost: 
$50 per course, plus applicable course fees

Auditing Courses


Learn More. Stress Less.

Auditing a course allows for deeper engagement than Town & Gown while still avoiding the requirements of earning credit.

When you audit a course:

  • Exams and academic obligations are not required
  • Classroom participation is encouraged
  • Feedback on assignments is at the instructor’s discretion
  • No grade or credit is awarded
  • A record of the audit appears on the student transcript

Students who stop attending may be administratively withdrawn and assigned a W (Withdrawal).

Auditing cost:
$125 per credit hour, plus applicable course fees

Non‑Degree Enrollment for Academic Credit


Individuals who wish to enroll in undergraduate courses for academic credit without pursuing a degree must apply as a Non‑Degree Seeking Student.
 
 

Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR)


The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) is a community‑based program for retirement‑age learners who share a passion for learning.

  • Academic programs are designed by participants
  • Courses are taught by knowledgeable instructors
  • Classes are held on the Marietta College campus and at various community locations
  • Participants may enroll in as many courses as they wish
  • Courses are usually 4 or 8 weeks in length and meet once each week

ILR Cost: 
Usually $15-$30 per course, depending on length of the course

College Credit Plus (CCP)


College Credit Plus (CCP) allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit by completing college‑level coursework. Through dual enrollment at their high school or direct enrollment on Marietta College’s campus, eligible students can experience the rigor of a college curriculum, explore a wide range of academic subjects, and begin earning affordable college credit while still in high school.
