Marietta College Symphonic Band Ensemble

Open to all wind and percussion instrumentalists regardless of college major, the Symphonic Band is the larger concert band on the college campus. This ensemble provides students with the opportunity to rehearse and perform high-quality wind and percussion repertoire with emphasis on individual and group musical improvement. This ensemble is open to everyone regardless of major and helps fulfill some of the Artistic Expression general education requirements for all degree programs. The Symphonic Band performs a Fall Concert during the first semester. The year is concluded with the Spring Concert in April and Graduation in May.

Wind Ensemble - MUSC 366

Wind Ensemble at Marietta College

The Wind Ensemble is a select group of instrumentalists chosen through an audition process. This music ensemble boasts a smaller instrumentation with normally one player per part. Challenging the more technically advanced instrumentalists, the Wind Ensemble rehearses and performs the most advanced wind and percussion repertoire representing orchestral transcriptions to the music of contemporary composers for the wind band. This ensemble is open through an audition process for interested students, regardless of major and helps fulfill some of the Artistic Expression general education requirements for all degree programs. The Wind Ensemble performs a Fall Concert during the first semester. The year is concluded with the Spring Concert in April and Graduation in May.

Jazz Ensemble/Combo - MUSC 166

Jazz Ensemble performs at Marietta College

The Jazz Ensemble provides students with the opportunity to perform a variety of jazz styles from big band to funk and everything in between. Most members of this ensemble are members of the Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble for membership in this organization. Instrumentation used in this ensemble includes the traditional instrumentation of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, percussion, drum set, electric guitar and electric bass. This ensemble can help in partial fulfillment of the Artistic Expression general education requirement for all degrees on the Marietta College campus.

Chamber Ensembles/New Music Ensemble - MUSC 365 and MUSC 363

A variety of chamber ensembles provide additional performance opportunities for Marietta College students. These small ensembles are formed to match student interests, available instrumentation and time availability. These ensembles can help in partial fulfillment of the Artistic Expression general education requirement for all degrees on the Marietta College campus.

Pep Band

The Marietta Pep Band plays at a football game in Don Drumm Stadium

The Pio Pep Band is an instrumental ensemble that exists to offer support to athletic events on campus.  During the Fall semester the pep band plays for 5 home football games and 5 home volleyball games.  Spring semester performances include 5 men's basketball games and 5 women's basketball games.  Membership is open to all students on campus and students are paid for each pep band game at which they perform.
