About: HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. HOBY provides students, for whom most are selected by their schools, the opportunity to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences, beginning a lifelong dedication to improving the lives of others. Due to the selfless efforts of volunteers and the contributions of generous donors, more than 10,000 students participate in HOBY programs annually.

Upward Bound
Camp: Residential
Dates: June 23-July 26
Ages: Students must have completed the eighth grade, be between the ages of 13 and 19, and have a need for academic support in order to pursue a program of postsecondary education.
Cost: Free (federally funded program)
About: Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.

About: Campers will have the opportunity to explore the world of flight and science as they build and test flying machines, conduct computer flight simulations, learn about the principles of aerodynamics and gain an overview of the development of the space flight program. The three action-packed days will take campers through an exciting adventure in hands-on learning including:

  • build and fly hot air balloons, model rockets and other 'things that fly'
  • tour the universe within a planetarium
  • explore the stars and planets
  • learn about an astronaut's life on a mission
  • computer flight simulation and space exploration
  • launch their own model rocket
  • participate in a special graduation ceremony

About: This Institute is for teachers to work through a variety of lab experiments that will improve their ability to teach specific physics topics to their high school students. High school science teachers from Ohio, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania participate in the five-day, hands-on teaching seminar.

WISE at MC
Women’s Inspirational Summer Experience
Camp: Residential
Dates: July 9-12
Ages: Rising Junior or Senior year of high school
About: WISE at MC is open to female students entering their junior or senior year of high school and who are interested in activities that are hands-on and discussion-based, and include art, community-service, entrepreneurship and leadership development. Participants stay in air-conditioned residence halls and work on fun projects while getting to know each other and campus. Through this experience, students will build confidence, stronger communication skills, new friends and mentors, and knowledge about college life.

iBELIEVE Summer Leadership Workshop
Camp: Residential
Dates: July 13-18
Ages: Grades 9-12 (Only School Administrators/Counselors can select and register students to represent their high school)
About: The iBELIEVE Foundation strives to provide opportunities to Appalachian youth for the development of 21st Century Skills such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Ultimately, their ambitious goal is to increase collegiate attendance and retention in the Appalachian communities of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The program is a mix of large group, small group, and individual activities — with opportunities to share talents and skills, as well as develop and reflect on their goals. The workshop gives the students skills to become successful in their endeavors as well as the confidence to create change, make an impact and instill a willingness to give back.
