With spring in full swing, the Marietta College campus is in bloom and the calendar is  bursting with energy and activity. Saturday, April 18 offers a packed lineup of events across campus as the College welcomes alumni, visitors, new students and families. Activities will celebrate student accomplishments, welcome back alumni, honor an MC Hall of Fame coach, and invite the community to join a day full of activity and celebration at Community Day. This roundup of the day’s events offers a snapshot of events, times, and locations. 

For those attending events on April 18, parking availability and event locations are designated on a campus map that can be downloaded here. The map includes “drop-off” loops for those who have members with mobility limitations. Accessible parking is available and shuttle service will be available for those who need assistance; information on how to request a shuttle is included on the map.

First steps as a Pioneer: Navy Blue & White

The morning begins with Navy Blue and White, an event welcoming admitted students and their families to campus and giving them a chance to sample life at Marietta College. Students can attend a mock class, tour campus, and discuss scheduling with an academic advisor. The event is open only to admitted students, who must register in advance, and will begin in the Andrews Hall Great Room. After the event, families may attend a softball game, a women’s lacrosse competition, or attend a theatre production to experience the energy and activity of the MC campus.

Rite of passage: PA White Coat Ceremony

The morning also includes a ceremony honoring students in the Physician Assistant Studies program as they are formally presented with their white coats, symbolizing their entry into the medical profession. The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage, with the coat representing a commitment to trust, respect and professional responsibility. Students and their families celebrate the hard work and dedication required to enter the medical field as the event marks the start of the clinical phase of their PA education.

Explore the possibilities: Junior Football Day

At the same time, in Don Drumm Stadium, the Pioneers football program welcomes more than 100 prospective students and their families to campus for Junior Football Day. Young athletes eager to continue playing at the College level will the opportunity to get an inside look at the culture of Marietta’s football program, meet coaches and staff, and tour campus.

Annual tradition: Softball Community Day

At noon, the annual Community Day softball event gets underway as kids, parents, and community members of all ages are invited to a free day at the ballpark featuring food, fun and prizes. Fans can take part in a full slate of game-day experiences, including in-game contests during inning breaks for prizes and giveaways. Youth are invited to participate in starting lineups and run the bases following the game. Fans can also enjoy complimentary ballpark-style food and beverages while supplies last. The event is organized by students in the Sport Management Program.

Celebrating legendary moments: Softball field dedication

This year’s event is extra special, featuring a ceremony during which the Marietta Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony to christen the newly renovated Jeanne Arbuckle Field in honor of long-time Marietta College softball coach.

Athletics action: Softball and women’s lacrosse take on Baldwin Wallace

After the dedication, Pioneers softball will play a doubleheader against OAC competitor Baldwin Wallace. First Pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with the second game expected to start at approximately 3 p.m.

At 4 p.m. the center draw will take place in a women’s Lacrosse matchup against Baldwin Wallace on the blue field adjacent to softball.

Theatre takes the stage: One night, two productions

Comic strips brought to life on stage, is one way to describe the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The Theatre Department production will present its closing performance at 7 p.m. The show centers on themes of innocence, nostalgia and human connection, drawing from the enduring appeal of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters. Following a brief intermission at the conclusion of the show, Dog Sees God will take the stage, exploring the Peanuts characters as teenagers navigating issues such as bullying, trauma and identity.
