Three Marietta College accounting students were recognized during the annual Student Recognition Night hosted by the Parkersburg chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs (WVSCPA).

The honorees included Kade Demchak ’25 (Woodsfield, Ohio), Brett Dixon ’27 (Lebanon, Ohio), and Tanner Stoneking ’29 (Woodsfield, Ohio).

“I enjoyed my time at the West Virginia Society of CPAs’ event, as I had the opportunity to network with many accounting professionals working in diverse fields,” said Demchak. “It was intriguing to learn about people’s backgrounds in accounting while talking with fellow students, recent college graduates who are beginning their careers, and professionals who have nearly done it all and are approaching retirement.”

Dixon added, “Having the chance to connect with accounting professionals at various stages of their careers was an invaluable experience. It has given me meaningful insights into what it truly means to be an accounting professional.”

The event, held Nov. 13 at the Parkersburg Country Club, featured a business social hour, networking icebreaker, plated dinner, and remarks from WVSCPA President Mendy Aluise, giving students a chance to engage with professionals and peers in an interactive setting.

“Networking events are an essential element of the business programs at Marietta College as they help students strengthen their skills, behaviors, and qualities necessary for career success,” said Doug Ankrom ’97, assistant professor of accounting. “The WVSCPA event gave students the opportunity to network with experienced accounting professionals and to learn more about the accounting field.”

Marietta College has a long-standing relationship with the WVSCPA. Emeritus Professor Edward H. Osborne served on the chapter’s leadership team for many years, and faculty continue to support student engagement with the Society.

Marietta’s accounting graduates are making an impact locally in Washington County, Ohio, as well as at leading organizations nationwide, including Big Four accounting firms, publicly traded corporations, and state and federal government agencies.
