You are cordially invited to join us for the 12th Annual McDonough Leadership Conference (March 31–April 1, 2023) on the beautiful campus of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. This national event brings together undergraduate/graduate students, faculty, staff, and practitioners who share a passion for leadership education and development. Through panel presentations, workshops, roundtables, and keynote speeches, conference participants will expand their knowledge of how leadership works in the 21st century. Because of generous corporate sponsorships, there is no registration fee to attend and participate in this conference. Plus, most meals are provided during the conference at no cost. Conference participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements (see information below).

2023 Conference Theme: “courageous followership”

Leading well requires a strong sense of self – knowing who you are, your strengths, your weaknesses. In recent years, the leadership literature has paid increasing attention to the importance of self-awareness in leadership development. In the process of expanding their leadership capacity, leaders gain critical insights about themselves. Leading from the heart requires leaders to know themselves at a deeper level. This topic allows us to explore related issues, including (but not limited to) mindfulness, emotional intelligence, values-based leadership, authentic leadership, and leader burnout.

Types of Sessions:

  • Undergraduate/Graduate Student Presentations (individual students’ presentation proposals) – Original research, capstone projects, literature review, report from field experience (e.g., internships, study abroad, service-learning project).
  • Undergraduate/Graduate Student Panels – We encourage faculty and staff to organize, propose, and chair a panel session with either undergraduate or graduate students from their own institution.
  • Faculty/staff Roundtable – Interactive sessions, information exchange proposed by faculty/staff.
