Chopped on the Mall 2025

Marietta College’s Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils are joining forces for Greek Week, Nov. 2-6, bringing the College’s fraternities and sororities together for a week of friendly rivalry, community service and opportunities to build connections across chapters.

This year’s theme, “Order of the Greeks,” invites each chapter to choose a horcrux to represent its organization. The theme encourages members of Marietta’s fraternities and sororities to connect beyond their individual chapters and councils while supporting cancer research.

“For me, it helps connect with other people in the Greek community. It has given me so many people to talk to and get opinions from. It also helps me grow out of my shell and see differences that make a person who they are,” said Lizzie Herrera '27, president of the Panhellenic Council.

The week opens Monday with banner-making and card games, including euchre and UNO. On Tuesday, two representatives from each chapter will compete in the third annual “Chopped on the Mall,” a cooking competition that tests which chapter can chef the best.

Wednesday shifts the focus toward philanthropy as Greek members assemble goodie bags for the Memorial Health System Belpre Cancer Center. For Herrera, the philanthropic focus is especially meaningful.

“Cancer research holds a special place in my heart because I’ve recently had someone pass away from cancer. It’s special to be able to help others and give them a fighting chance,” said Herrera.

On Thursday, chapters will put their knowledge and teamwork skills to the test during trivia in the Andrews Hall Great Room. The week will conclude Friday with a bowling outing at Emerson Lanes in Parkersburg. For students, the week offers a chance to step outside of their usual chapter activities and spend time with members of the broader Greek community.

“Greek Week is important because it gives every chapter a voice, and we get to show off what defines our chapters, letting us connect with others,” said Herrera.

As the week’s “Order of the Greeks” theme suggests, Greek Week is about more than competition and activities. It is an opportunity for Marietta’s Greek Life to strengthen relationships and support a cause beyond campus.
