Biography
Matt Valin is the Pioneers' pitching coach. Valin came to Marietta after a stint as Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Onondaga Community College (Syracuse, N.Y.), where he worked primarily with the pitching staff and also instituted a strength and conditioning program. In his one year at the job, his pitching staff improved their team ERA by two runs as well as increasing their strike outs by nearly 80 more from the year prior.

Prior to Onondaga, Valin also spent two seasons as assistant coach at Jefferson Community College (Watertown, N.Y.) and one at Presentation College (Aberdeen, South Dakota). Valin began his college playing career at Onondaga Community College, where he recorded a total of 149 strikeouts in two seasons. He then transferred to SUNY Cortland and finished with a 10-0 record and a 2.60 earned run average. He recorded 126 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched in those two seasons. In his senior campaign, he earned All-American honors as he led SUNY Cortland to an NCAA regional championship game.

Upon graduation, Valin signed a professional contract with the Ottawa Champions of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball (Can-Am League) where he spent half a season. He has since played every year professionally with his most successful season occurring this past summer. He signed with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League, collecting a 3-2 record and striking out 47 hitters in 39.1 innings pitched.

Originally from LaFargeville, N.Y., Valin graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Physical Education.
