The Marietta College Art Department and Gallery 310 are hosting the exhibition, “Color Expanses,” featuring Japanese ukiyo-e prints from the late Dr. Richard M. Krause ’47 collection and contemporary landscape paintings by Columbus-based artist Christopher Burk. The exhibition runs from February 8 through April 18.
The exhibition includes prints by acclaimed 19th-century Japanese artist Ando Hiroshige, known for his innovative use of color and perspective. Hiroshige’s woodblock prints hugely influenced Western artists such as the Impressionists. The exhibition juxtaposes these historic prints with the contemporary abstracted landscapes of Christopher Burk, creating an illuminating dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
Burk is an internationally exhibited painter based in Columbus, Ohio. He has received prestigious awards, including an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
Gallery 310 is located on the third floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center. Gallery hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., or by appointment. All exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public.
