You won't be the same after your four years at Marietta. The status quo doesn't cut it here. In an environment where we celebrate curiosity, inspire independence and praise perseverance, how could you possibly stay the same? Professors will challenge you to dive deeper into independent projects and internships. Coaches will demand extra reps after practice. Friends will support your every step. At Marietta, you will emerge ready to change the world.

So, back to the original question, "Why Marietta College?" Here is why we think Marietta.

At Marietta College you have:

Prestige

Marietta is consistently named one of the top private colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report's annual index of America's Best Colleges (most recently as a Top-10 school in the Midwest). Forbes.com ranked Marietta in the Top 30 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities, while The Princeton Review consistently lists the College as a "Best Midwestern College." In 2015, the Brookings Institution ranked colleges by their highest value added, regardless of major. Marietta College came in at an impressive No. 7 in the entire nation.

Tradition

Not a few years. Not several decades. But more than two centuries of tradition. Marietta College traces its roots to area pioneers in 1797 and was chartered by the state of Ohio in 1835. During the 2009-10 academic year, the College celebrated its 175th anniversary.

Liberal Arts

A liberal arts-based education prepares you for anything. Most people no longer stay in the same career for their entire working life. At Marietta, you'll develop a broad range of knowledge and a solid foundation of highly marketable communication and analytical skills. Call it "insurance," "door number two" or whatever you like — it's just good to have.

Values

The Core Values that guide every aspect of Marietta College translate into assets for our students — from a liberal arts foundation to immersion in technology, from an introduction to the world of work to being of service to others.

Direction

Our Career Center offers individual advising and testing; courses like Career Planning and The Job Search; workshops on professionalism, resume writing and interviewing; an on-campus career fair. The Academic Resource Center provides a variety of academic support services to the campus and works closely with students, faculty and staff to ensure the success of our students.

Results

More than 90 percent of Marietta College graduates are employed or in graduate school within six months of graduating. Our graduates work at NASA, NBC-TV, Cleveland Clinic and Chevron ... to name a few.

Attention

Marietta's student-teacher ratio is 10:1. The average class has 12 students.

Mentors

Students and faculty collaborate on groundbreaking research — sometimes well into the night. Because let's face it, the best discoveries and most innovative ideas can come at any time. Expect one-on-one interaction with, inspiration from and guidance by an outstanding faculty, 82 percent of whom hold a Ph.D. or another terminal degree.

Leadership

The McDonough Leadership Program is one of the most unique, respected and comprehensive leadership programs in the nation — and it has been for three decades. Also, leadership training is part of every student's experience at Marietta.

Connections

The Long Blue Line is the community of Marietta College alumni stretching back in time to the College's beginning. To date, that adds up to more than 25,000 living alumni. When you graduate from Marietta College, you'll join U.S. governors and senators, award-winning novelists, astronauts, engineers and the founder of baseball's American League. Our loyal graduates comprising The Long Blue Line remember where the journey started — so they'll want to help you with internships, advice and, yes, job offers.

Reality

Every major at Marietta provides an internship. Clearly, we hold real-world experience in high esteem. Students intern all over the world at places like Walt Disney, Exxon Mobil, Target, GE Plastics and the PGA Tour.

Travel

China, Australia, England, France, Indonesia, Japan, Spain, Sweden and Thailand are just a few of the destinations where Marietta students have studied abroad. Faculty also organizes special excursions to exotic locations like Brazil, London, Belize, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.

Community

Ninety-five percent of our students — from 32 states and ten countries — live on campus in a range of housing options-traditional residence halls, new apartment-style residence halls, fraternities and sororities.

We have 22 varsity teams that compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference — the toughest NCAA Division III league in the nation.
