The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is honored to host Victoria Smalls, Executive Director of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission, for a special campus presentation at 5:30 p.m., Friday, September 15, in The Gathering Place.

Ms. Smalls will share the rich history and traditions of the Gullah Geechee people, descendants of Central and West Africa who settled coastal areas of the southeastern U.S. She will highlight efforts to preserve Gullah Geechee cultural resources through her work with the National Heritage Area spanning North Carolina to Florida.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn about a unique world culture right from an eminent leader in the field. Ms. Smalls' lifetime of outstanding service and advocacy recently earned her the President's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Smalls for what promises to be an engaging and enlightening presentation. This event is free and open to the public. This presentation is made possible by the generosity of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Corridor Commission, N.H.A., and through a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council and the Civil War Roundtable of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
