The LGBTQ+ Student Emergency Fund was established in 2022 to support students whose gender presentation or sexual orientation has contributed to financial difficulties or other crises. The purpose of this fund is to provide students with emergency grants to assist with non-tuition expenses such as car repair, safe shelter, medical expenses, books, or other necessary supplies.
How the Fund Works
- The fund is to be administered by Marietta College, with disbursements managed by the Office of Student Life. LGBTQ+ students may apply by submitting the simple form at TK, or by contacting one of the following fund facilitators:
- Any staff member at the Health and Wellness Center: 740.376.4477 or healthandwellness@marietta.edu
- Tony Mayle, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Connections and Outreach: 740.376.3287 or aam006@marietta.edu
Facilitators will be trained to assist students with the application and documentation process, as well as direct them to additional support or counseling services as appropriate. Students may also initiate the process by submitting the form directly. Applications will be held in strictest confidence.
Grants awarded from the LGBTQ+ Student Emergency Fund (SEF) will vary depending on individual student needs and financial aid eligibility. With support from LGBTQ+ SEF advisors, students applying for assistance should contact Student Financial Services about their individual financial aid circumstances at 740.376.4712 or 1.800.331.2709, or by email at finaid@marietta.edu. Students should maintain receipts or other documentation of need when seeking support.
Support The Fund
The LGBTQ+ Student Emergency Fund was launched in conjunction with Marietta College’s sixth annual Day of Giving on February 14, 2022. Donors may direct their gifts to the fund via our crowdfunding platform during that campaign, or can contribute at any time by sending a check to Marietta College with “LGBTQ+ Student Emergency Fund” indicated on the memo line, or by making a credit card gift at www.marietta.edu/give by choosing the “other” designation and then indicating the LGBTQ+ Student Emergency Fund.
