Marietta College has placed 19th in a national ranking of bachelor’s colleges and universities across the United States regarding an institution’s contribution to the public good. Marietta ranked 19th last year and 20th in 2021.

The Washington Monthly 2023 College Guide and Rankings assess four-year schools (national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master’s universities) in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and providing opportunities for public service. Marietta is No. 1 in service, 22nd in research, and 112th in social mobility.

The survey considers a university’s predicted and actual graduation rates, the percentage of low-income students receiving federal aid, the percentage of all students who join the Peace Corps or ROTC or engage in other community service, and the number of faculty receiving significant awards and elected to the national academies.

Marietta also ranked 163 out of 384 Best Bang for the Buck College in the Midwest. The schools on this exclusive list are ranked according to how well they help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.

Regardless of methodology, Marietta has consistently placed among the best colleges and universities in regional and national rankings for nearly 40 years.
