Marietta College offers a number of academic programs that lead to professional licensure in Ohio. While each state determines its own requirements regarding which professions require licensure and the specific criteria for professional licensure, graduation from an accredited program is a common requirement in many licensure programs. However, some states may require additional coursework or fieldwork.
Marietta College is a participating institution in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). NC-SARA membership, however, does not grant reciprocity or exempt us from state professional licensing requirements. As a result, licensing requirements in Ohio may not be recognized as sufficient to obtain a license in every other state and U.S. territory.
Both federal and state regulations mandate that an institution of higher education provide consumer information regarding any academic program offered that is designed to lead to licensure or certification. This page provides information on each such program offered by Marietta College, as determined by the academic program and the Records Office as of April 2022. Marietta College provides this General Disclosure to students prior to enrollment or financial commitment.
- Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
Marietta College provides this General Disclosure to students prior to enrollment or financial commitment. Successful completion of the School of Physician Assistant Studies program has been compared to the educational requirements for licensure or certification required for employment in each State and US Territory. If the program does not meet, or we are unable to determine that the education program meets the educational requirements, we have provided contact information to the licensing board for that State or Territory.
The Marietta College Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies is designed to prepare graduates for licensure or certification in Ohio, as well as many other states. Some state licensing boards may require additional requirements beyond education, which may include (but are not limited to): additional post-graduation examinations or experience, application and licensing fees, criminal background checks, reference checks, fingerprint submissions, etc.
Students are advised to understand and review any additional requirements to determine, prior to enrollment, whether the program meets licensure requirements in the State or Territory in which the Student is located.
Marietta college considers the U.S. State or Territory address included on the enrollment application as the student’s primary address. For student applicants who are members of any branch of the US Military, their assigned base or base of deployment is considered their legal residence.
Students must provide formal notification to Marietta College when the student’s legal residence has changed to another State or Territory and when the new State or Territory is listed on the table below and is noted as Does Not Meet or Unable to Determine.

- Bachelor’s Degrees: Education
Marietta College offers two majors, Special Education/Early Childhood Dual Preparation and Middle Childhood/Special Education Dual Preparation, that prepare students for teaching licensure in the State of Ohio. Additionally, educator licensure programs are available as an addition to select majors and to individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree and wish to seek education licensure.
As noted above, Marietta College is a participating institution in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). NC-SARA policies are designed, among other goals, to provide consumer protection to students of participating institutions. As such, Marietta College students have a right to lodge a complaint regarding potential violation of NC-SARA policy. The complaint process begins with the institution by contacting Dr. Kathleen Poorman Dougherty, Provost and Dean of Faculty, at kad007@marietta.edu.
If the issue is unresolved, the student should contact our home state SARA Portal Entity:
