Instructor speaking with students

Marietta College’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (CECD) was pleased to welcome 11 students to the “Effective Communication in a Professional Environment” workshop on Tuesday, February 27.

Led by Academic Success Coach Donna Fenton and Communications Instructor Ann Nicely, there were two main objectives of the workshop: to refine the students’ communication skills and to instill in them the confidence to navigate the nuances of professional written and verbal interactions effectively.

“Marietta College’s faculty do an amazing job of providing our students with the critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the specific career-related knowledge to be successful in the workplace,” said Dr. Jacqueline Khorassani, Senior Director of CECD. “Our aim at the CECD is to empower our students to enhance their interview skills and effectively apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to excel in professional settings.”

Khorassani added that she and Assistant Director Ricci Bailey have dedicated significant effort to delivering relevant programming throughout the 2023-24 academic year, providing essential job skills that will greatly benefit Marietta’s graduates."

“We are still fine-tuning our program offerings in the future, and we also hope to attract more students to these valuable workshops,” Khorassani said.

Over the past two decades, Marietta’s graduates regularly found employment or were enrolled in a graduate program of their choice within six months of graduation. Within six months of the 2023 Commencement, 98% of Marietta’s graduates were employed, in graduate school or the military.
