Dr. Amanda Flowers, a native of Cutler, Ohio, will be on campus to speak about Black enslavement and Southeast Ohio's Underground Railroad network at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 27. Her discussion will be held in the Alma McDonough Auditorium and it is sponsored by the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

Dr. Flowers has held a lifelong vision of advancing racial equity and social justice. While inheriting her ancestors' dual interest in healing society at the individual and community levels, she majored in psychology, minored in sociology, and received her master’s and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology. With specialties in health, addiction, children, and diversity, Dr. Flowers set out to work with underserved populations from all walks of life. She has spent her early career “in the trenches,” combating the social and structural determinants of health, mental health, and education while collaborating on several grassroots initiatives in underrepresented urban and rural communities.
