The Great American Eclipse is coming on Monday, April 8! Are you prepared? In Marietta, the eclipse will last from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring around 3:15 p.m. Although we are not in the path of totality, we will experience a partial eclipse in which 96% of the sun’s disk will be covered by the moon.
Safe viewing is essential as even 4% of the sun’s disk has the potential to cause lasting eye damage. Eclipse glasses, Shade 14 welding glass, or a pinhole camera are all good options.
Come to the Anderson Hancock Planetarium for a brief presentation on what to expect at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, April 4. Eclipse glasses will be available in the lobby for $2 each or $5 for three. Not available at those times, but still want eclipse glasses? Let us know at ann.bragg@marietta.edu or planetarium@marietta.edu.
