Our Mission

The Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) serves as a bridge between campus resources and community needs, maintaining an active dialogue and partnership between Marietta College and local organizations. Through this work, OCE empowers students to be active leaders in their communities, promotes critical thinking about social justice issues, and develops citizens committed to a lifetime of public service.

The Office of Civic Engagement offers:

  • Volunteering
OCE works with student organizations, academic classes, athletic teams, and individuals to help connect them to service opportunities in the local community—maintaining an active network of community partner organizations that host student volunteers on both an individual basis and for group projects.
Projects include: Make a Difference Day and Campus Wide Days of Service, Individual Service Placements, Team and Organizational Service Projects, LHK Food Educators
  • Experiential Education and Service Learning
OCE facilitates campus-community engagement, with a focus on developing service-learning and long-term community partnerships. We help community members, organizations, faculty and staff work together to co-create knowledge and engage in hands-on work that both enriches the educational experience and also supports positive, sustainable community development, locally, nationally, and globally.
Projects include: Alternative Breaks, Next Gen Board Leadership Program, Internships and Community Scholarship Projects, Academic Service Learning Courses
  • Leadership Development
OCE develops and implements campus-based programming that supports MC students’ civic engagement through mentoring, training, and educational co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities.
Projects include: Conference Delegations, Student Leadership Retreats, Service Site Leader Training, Social Justice Dialogs, Election Outreach, Lunch and Learns
  • Community Outreach
OCE works directly with community-based organizations, schools, and funders to build and sustain outreach projects that serve the common good, as well as provide volunteer and experiential education opportunities for students.
Projects Include: Hunger Solutions/Live Healthy Kids, Nonprofits LEAD
