If you knew the late Mathematics Professor Dr. John Michel, you know that the thought of having iPads to help teach a math course would have made him smile.

“John really cared about his students and about how they were being taught,” says Professor John Tynan, former friend and colleague of Michel, and Chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. “He loved technology, so I think being able to use technology in the classroom in a real-world application would have been something that he [would have] really loved.”

When Michel passed away in 2018, his family established the John and Katharine Michel Fund for Mathematics. That fund has enabled the department to purchase six iPads for faculty to use while teaching.
